Bolivian Cultural Weekend

WASHINGTON DC • AUGUST 15-16, 2026

Bolivian Cultural Weekend was a lot. In the best way.

Over 2 days, we brought together Bolivian art, food, dance, music, small business and community in DC. More than 1,000 people came through the weekend, both days sold out, and we had people travel in from outside of the DMV to be there.

There were so many parts of the weekend I loved, but I wanted to use this space to document more of the Sunday Mercadito. The vendors, the art show, the mural and everything that went into creating that space.

The Mercadito

I really wanted the Mercadito to feel like an immersive Bolivian experience in the diaspora. So much of my work lives online, sharing talented people, stories, and things that connect us through our heritage. This felt like bringing all of that to life in 3D, and it was amazing.

It wasn’t just somewhere to shop. It was a place to meet Bolivian businesses and artists, discover their work, and support them in real time.

We received more than 60 vendor applications. I wish we could have included everyone, but I loved the group that came together.

The Mural

I also painted the mural for the Mercadito in the 2 days. I wanted it to bring together different parts of Bolivia while being rooted in D.C.

The mountains and hillside homes represent the highlands, while the tropical plants and landscape represent the Amazon. One woman wears a cholita outfit and the other a tipoy, representing the highlands and lowlands. Both face the Capitol in the center. A way of showing how we all come from different regions of Bolivia, but bring that with us when we meet here in D.C.
